Love Is My Velocity Key Terms
Love is My Velocity is launching the LIMV Cookbook II in May. For the occasion, we’re hosting three events as part of the 2009 WAMi Festival – the LIMV Cookbook II launch and exhibition, the Bank Notes recording studio, and a series of band-artist Windows on William displays. What are all these things? It’s hard to explain. Please refer to the definitions below.
Love Is My Velocity: currently acts as a record label, publisher and developer of creative multi-disciplinary events. Its four directors have launched five split 7” vinyl singles, two full length CDs and two art publications over the past few years, as well as putting on numerous cross-platform gigs around town.
The Love Is My Velocity Cookbook II: is LIMV’s second attempt at gathering emerging Perth artists and musicians into an interactive biannual 60-page almanac of local creativity. A selection of musicians contributes recipes, which, along with their music, inspires artists to create a dynamic work decorating the back of each A5 recipe card. The Cookbook’s unbound format makes it unique – it can act as a regular cookbook or as a selection of prints to hang on your wall.
The Love Is My Velocity Cookbook Launch and Exhibition are a part of the 2009 WAMi Festival.
The Cookbook II Exhibition: is filled with the original drawings, paintings, photographs, sculptures, installations, videos, assemblages and textiles created for the Cookbook II. More than 60 works will be on display and available to purchase from May 9-20 in 214 William Street (the Old Bank). Gallery opens 10am-4pm weekdays and 12pm-4pm weekends.
The Cookbook II Launch: On May 8, Abbe May, The Tigers, 6s & 7s and the Bank Holidays help launch the Cookbook II from 8pm at the Hellenic Centre, 20 Parker Street Northbridge (opposite Russell Square). Also on show – an interactive performance involving multiple breadmakers, local bands, and artists The Inter Collective.

Bank Notes: an ad hoc studio set up to facilitate fast, rough, and immediately distributable tracks from some of our favourite bands and musicians – 6s & 7s, 7 Weapons, Abbe May, Astral Travel, Boys Boys Boys!, Carbuncle, Extortion, The Sabretooth Tigers, When the Sky Fell and Wind Waker.
Engineered by veteran Perth soundman Laurie Sinagra, Bank Notes takes place at 214 William Street, a disused bank building, on May 6, 7 and 8. The recordings will be live with a minimum of second takes, and will be mastered and uploaded to www.loveismyvelocity.com/banknotes immediately for free public download.
What’s more, you can see it unfold in person. The door to the bank will be open to the public to allow small groups to enter and see the bands at work – so long as they stay quiet and don’t break anything. Session times run noon to 7pm, Wednesday May 6, 10am to 5pm, Thursday May 7, 10am to 3pm, Friday May 8
2009 WAMi Festival supports Bank Notes, a temporary recording studio presented by Love Is My Velocity.
Windows on William WAMi Festival edition
In partnership with the On William organisation, Love is My Velocity curates the third Windows on William, a regular series of shopfront exhibitions installed in William Street boutiques.
For this special edition of Windows on William, LIMV asked local musicians, artists and fashion designers to collaborate on personal window displays with the aim of providing an audiovisual insight into their creative personas. Joining them will be three Cookbook II artists, presenting sometimes-performative installations in spaces from the Brisbane street end of William Street right into the Wellington Street Bus Station. Check the map inside the WAMi Festival program for all the stops.
At each shop a limited edition bonus recipe card not found in the Cookbook will be available to collect for free, and each band-artist combo has produced a one-of-a-kind object or garment that encapsulates their interpretation of the band’s aesthetic. Small editions of related works will be available to purchase, and folks can also pick up band merch or have a listen to mix CDs that the combos have made.
Taking part are Abbe May and Jessie Mitchell, Astral Travel and Clare Wohlnick, Cease and Kate Wilson, Drapht and Nathan Conway, Fall Electric and Calliope and Celene Bridge, Felicity Groom and Ruby Mariani, Hayley Beth and Beau Walker, Josh Fontaine and Kate MacFarlane, Sugar Army and Alexandra Lekias, Tomas Ford and Tim Watson, and Love Is My Velocity and Gian Manik, joined by Rebecca Baumann, Jason Hendrik Hansma and Shannon Lyons.
Windows on William WAMi Edition is presented by Love Is My Velocity and On William.Thr
