Australia Chooses (The Sentinel Blooze)

by admin on Jul.19, 2010, under Events

The 6s & 7s new album ‘Choose The Sentinel Blooze’ continues to conquer the country! You may have heard the first single ‘Smilin’ on Triple J, where it has been added to rotation, or on FBi, RRRfm or a myriad of other stations where they are also playing tracks off the album on a regular basis.

Street press on the East Coast have also praised the album, saying “It’s a pretty awesomely warped and schizophrenic (not in an obscene ‘crazy, man’ way; in the sense that disparate and often troubled voices interject the songs at times, the tunes changing tack and shifting melodies in condensed, paranoid movements) pop album. There is, as has been suggested, probably some Xiu Xiu in there, as well as The Magnetic Fields, but who cares about references when the result is a strong, uncompromising new Australian voice.” – Adam Curley, The Breakdown (Drum Media, Inpress & Time Off)

And now, the 6s & 7s are happy to announce their impending album launch tour, where they are bringing the 6s & 7s stage show experience (TM) to Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Clear your schedules and mark the dates in your diaries people!

by admin on Jun.29, 2010, under Releases

Yes! It is getting closer! The 6s & 7s debut epic ‘6s & 7s Choose The Sentinel Blooze’ has us all pretty excited. The 6s & 7s have the first single from the album – a brand new track ‘Smilin’ – heading out to the airwaves now, although you can also have a listen on the 6s & 7s myspace for those of you who are too impatient to wait. Plus we have details of the tracklisting and launch to announce and some pretty cover art (see above) to unveil. No, Josh isn’t shooting the birds, he just happens to have a gun in his hand. Honest!

So first things first:

Track listing:

Drunk Liberties
His Eyes
International Roaming Capability
Smilin
Kissing for Science
Holidayz
A Velvet Coma
Empty Cities
(Yr) Fucking Nights
You Will Think of Me
Drunker Liberties

And now for the launch details…

6s & 7s Album Launch
Saturday 3 July

The Rosemount Hotel, North Perth
with support from The Painkillers, Split Seconds and Craig McElhinney

We expect the night to be a choreographed epic, so be there! Pre-sale tickets available at our online shop.

*UPDATE!*

For those who (quite rightly) shun myspace and its horrible interface – you can listen to a new track off the new album right here (and if you like it, you can share it on every possible platform or social networking site you like). It’s one of our favourites from the new album, called Empty Cities.

AdemK

As if May wasn’t busy enough, Love Is My Velocity are unveiling our final event in our May trilogy, which is a party for the launch of Adem K’s new record ‘The Community Chest’ at our new favourite venue The Bird in Northbridge.

Come down and have a drink with us on Saturday 29 May 2010, with Adem K, The Painkillers and The Gizzards to celebrate the launch of Adem K’s debut solo album and the closing of LIMV’s month of May madness.

After busying himself in the past few years releasing the debut When the Sky Fell album, ‘Welcome to the Growth Zone’ and the sophomore album for The Burton Cool Suit, ‘You Can’t Fight City Hall’, former Turnstyle frontman and indie pop roustabout Adem K returns in 2010 with The Community Chest, his first solo release in his more-than-a-decade-spanning career.

The Community Chest sees K’s pop sensibility run wild, combining the blues-rock fuzz of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club with dreamy Beach Boys harmonies on opening track 200 Year Old Volkswagon, side-stepping between winsome verses and jerky choruses on third track Burning Questions for Sportsgirl, then rediscovering his synth roots with fifth track barn burner Ceiling to the Floor.

In addition to reaffirming his status as the best song title-er in the business, these songs show off the breadth, skill and eclecticism of K’s songwriting while at the same time providing the same wit and slacker 90s grit as his past projects.

The album will be available on the Love Is My Velocity online store, digitally on emusic.com and itunes and in all good record stores on May 31.

For the 2010 WAMi Festival, Love Is My Velocity launch a new temporary takeaway joint at 54 Lake Street, Northbridge. Surrounding kebab shops need not fear the competition, because instead of providing deep fried snacks, LIMV are filling the space with a range of local music sounds, wares and activities that run throughout the festival from Wednesday May 19 to Sunday May 23.

TAKEAWAY TUNES POP-UP SHOP

For the first time, Love Is My Velocity present a pop-up local music shop to promote the hardworking independent label scene. Patrons can stop by and browse through a great range of CDs, records, vinyl, t-shirts, merchandise and related products. Stock is sourced from WA’s thriving community of local labels, including Meupe, Hidden Shoal, Walking Horse Records, Badminton Bandit, Owls, Heartless Robot and Jarrah Records. The goods of independent Perth bands and musicians are also represented. For local music lovers this will be the place to score hard-to-find wares and new special edition merchandise. For those newbies it’s the perfect introduction to a wealth of quality WA music.

TAKEAWAY TUNES TEMPORARY RECORDING STUDIO

Not just your usual record shop, Takeaway Tunes will be a hive of activity, featuring in-store performances throughout the festival. Housed within the Pop-Up Shop and following on from 2009’s Bank Notes, Love Is My Velocity and sound engineer Laurie Sinagra again team up, recording ten local bands in five days so punters can ‘takeaway’ the WAMi recordings for free. Hayley Beth, The Tigers, Benedict Moleta, The Ghost Hotel, Taco Leg and Owls will be amongst those visiting the studio. Every day from Wednesday 19 May, bands will load in, set-up, record, and load out, with the results uploaded each night to www.loveismyvelocity.com and spun the next day on RTRFM.

SLEEPING WITH THE BAND

Those who visit Takeaway Tunes will also have the chance to purchase a slip of local music history. For Sleeping With The Band, Love Is My Velocity commissioned five emerging artists to develop life-size portraits of iconic WA musicians. See James Baker (The Painkillers), Josh Fontaine (6s & 7s), Felicity Groom, Abbe May and Sam Scherr (Capital City) likeness’ printed on 1/10 cotton pillowcases. Get in early to ensure you’re one of the lucky few who can take their favourite musician home to bed.

Visit www.loveismyvelocity.com or join the Love Is My Velocity facebook group to keep up to date with the recording studio schedule and additional festivities planned for LIMV’s WAMi events.

BANDS & LABELS – STOCK YOUR GEAR IN TAKEAWAY TUNES

LIMV invite other local labels, independent Perth bands and musicians to submit their releases and merch – just email all@loveismyvelocity.com before May 1 to register your interest.

Haunting new music

Ghostdrums

Love Is My Velocity is proud to introduce Ghostdrums as we launch a limited edition USB release at Bar 459 at the Rosemount Hotel on Friday April 23 from 8pm.

As an eight year old learning to play the drums, Pete Guazzelli came up with an inventive way to make sure his family didn’t disown him. By draping a big white sheet (complete with eyeholes) over the top of his kit, he muffled the noise and created Ghostdrums.

After a fruitful period drumming in local bands like Fall Electric, The Kids and Gata Negra, Pete has revisited the Ghostdrums set up by building a unique machine from parts lying around the house. Combining a gold-sparkle ’60s Premiers drum kit with pedals, synths, loopers and the junk-percussion that’s been clogging up the spare room, Ghostdrums is this long-time Perth-based musician’s new solo project.

Keeping things spooky, Ghostdrums has joined forces with Melbourne artist Ghost Patrol to produce an interactive 4-track USB release that contains a bonus video for title track ‘Morning Sun’.

Ghostdrums’ experimental electronica combines intricate production with a lo-fi acoustic sound that’s as innocent and whimsical as his performance set-up.

See Ghostdrums with special guests, Rabbit Island vs Lil Leonie Lionheart and Chris Cobilis at Bar 459 at the Rosemount Hotel (Cnr Angove and Fitzgerald Streets, North Perth). Doors open at 8pm and capacity is limited,  so come early to grab one of the limited edition USBs released by Love Is My Velocity.

Ghostdrums’ self titled EP is also available digitally on itunes, emusic and the nokia music store from April 16. For a preview of the EP, check out his myspace.

The Smallgoods provide tasty treats

by admin on Feb.08, 2009, under Events

Move aside Dorsogna, Love Is My Velocity is donning a butcher’s apron and a classy hairnet in order to present The Smallgoods -  not an array of meats but an awesome Melbourne folk pop group. The show happens at The Velvet Lounge in Mt Lawley on Thursday 19th February 2009, with Benjamin Golby & Bridget Turner, and Nat Carson in support.

This marks The Smallgoods’ first jaunt to Perth, playing in a stripped down three piece format, so we’re throwing them a welcome shindig. Also deserving of warm greetings is Perth’s prodigal son Benjamin Golby (from New Rules for Boats) who is playing his first show since his return from abroad, with a little help from Bridget Turner (from Boys Boys Boys). Nat Carson (from Smallgoods’ labelmates The Bank Holidays) also joins the welcoming committee to kick off the proceedings with a cracking solo set. All in all, it’s a veritable continental roll worth of meaty treats.

The Smallgoods’ music wanders between jaunty folk, spacious epics, dark ballads and gentle psychedelia. Standout proponents of intelligent harmony laden pop music, The Smallgoods bring offerings from Down on the Farm, their third and most ambitious album to date. Released on Melbourne label Lost and Lonesome Records, this album brings the band back to their country roots in the Victorian coastal town of Port Fairy, where they all grew up together.

Did we mention that entry is a mere $7…

Check them out at their myspace
