Carbuncle at Bank Notes
In May 2009, as part of the WAMi Festival, Love Is My Velocity presented Bank Notes, a temporary recording studio which took place over three-days at an old bank building in Northbridge. We got some of our favourite bands to come in, set up, record and get out, all in less than two hours each.
Each band contributed around three songs to an mp3 blog that is downloadable for free and which were made available the day after they’re recorded. This project acknowledges the financial, logistical and motivational difficulties of recording and distributing new music that independent and/or emerging bands can face, and acts as a limited-time-only solution to such problems.

Carbuncle – tribal-influenced noise jam rock •Astral Travel – melodic DIY post-punk • Boys Boys Boys! – kitschy self-reflexive sugar pop • Cobilis/Hudson– experimental improvised post rock jams • Extortion – super-brutal hardcore • Lil Leonie Lionheart - sweet and crackly folk •Abbe May – a belting voice and jug-band blues • When the Sky Fell – lo-fi husband/wife pop in search of Atlantis • 7 Weapons – beautifully intricate folk • Wind Waker – experimental, diverging punk • 6s and 7s – epic Nirvana-meets-Beach Boys pop.
