6s & 7s Choose The Sentinel Blooze

Since what feels to us like the beginning of time, we have been bugging Josh Fontaine to release a record. We nudged him in that direction in 2007, when we released his pop hit ‘Holidayz’ on a split 7″ with Joe Bludge. And then we waited.
In the meantime, we asked ‘hey Josh, can you write us a piece of fiction and give us some accompanying artwork?’, ‘hey Josh, can you play at a bunch of our gigs?’, ‘ hey Josh, can you give us a recipe for our cookbook’, ‘hey Josh, can you collaborate with an upcoming fashion designer and do a window display for a shop‘ and ‘hey Josh, can we put your face on a pillowcase?’. In hindsight, we probably should have not asked him to do all those things and told him to keep his eyes on the prize. But, you see, he is a pretty multi-talented guy! And also a pretty good sport to be involved with all our crazy schemes.
But it wasn’t like he was being idle. Oh, no, he was busy writing new songs and forming a new band, the 6s & 7s. And he did come through with the goods in July 2010, being the new album 6s & 7s Choose The Sentinel Blooze to be released by us on 3 July 2010 and nationally distributed through Fuse Music Group. It goes without saying that we are pretty excited.

The whole 6s & 7s at Karaoke
The 6s & 7s formed in 2008 and quicky rose through the Perth music ranks to become one of the best known and most frequently gigging pop bands in town. Armed with Fontaine’s immaculate, peerless songs, they have spent the last two years reacquainting audiences with the live power of his falsetto voice and fiery guitar, as well as introducing his new band, featuring current and former members of New Rules for Boats, Superengine, Dom Mariani and the Majestic Kelp, the Burton Cool Suit and the Bank Holidays.
The 6s & 7s Choose the Sentinel Blooze LP unveils reinventions of old favourites, like the 2007 WAMi Song of the Year Award-winning Holidayz, Kissing for Science, and first single Smilin’. But it also introduces a batch of amazing new songs. His Eyes shifts between My Morning Jacket-style melodies and Xiu Xiu-style madness, Empty Cities cuts through bittersweet harmonies with laser sharp guitar, and Prince of Gold pairs lilting lyrics with a bold chorus of Fontaine ‘ahs’ above a barely audible guitar.
6s & 7s Choose the Sentinel Blooze takes Fontaine’s songs and transforms them into a lo-fi epic that stitches the ephemera of Panda Bear to the futuristic sadness of Grandaddy. With this debut album, Fontaine has gathered contributions from over 20 members of the Perth music community to make something as quirky and grand as a hungover Pet Sounds.
Lyrically, the album documents the long nights and long summers of the past decade of Fontaine’s life in Perth, dotted with euphoric highs and crushing lows. If 6s and 7s Choose the Sentinel Blooze is any indication, the next ten will contain less of the latter and more of the former.
OUT ON 3 July through Fuse Music Group Distribution. Get it from your local store, or buy it at our store or download from itunes.
