RISO Launch Date Change – Now Sat 8 May
by admin on Apr.22, 2010, under General
We have regrettably had to change the date of the RISO launch to Saturday 8 May at The Bird as the venue is not able to open on Sunday 25 April due to unforeseen circumstances. More details to follow, but we hope the line-up remains unchanged. Most importantly the publication will still be as excellent!
If you have already bought tickets (you excellent people!) we will refund tickets if you can’t make the new date, but we hope everyone can. Ticketholders should receive an email soon explaining the options.
So the new date:
SATURDAY 8 MAY @ The Bird
181 William Street, Northbridge
8pm
$15 Entry includes a copy of RISO
We are truly sorry, but hopefully everyone can make the new date! Sometimes things just happen!

Laneways, here we come

So 2010 has come by and we are back in business, working away on a bunch of stuff – including making our limited edition of screenprinted bags (aka ‘doggeh bags’ – see below). We’ll be selling these at the Laneway festival on Saturday, so come by the markets if you’re there and say hello to us and check them out. Or at least think of us, trying to sell 7″ singles and copies of the LIMV Cookbook II to people getting progressively drunker, while you sing along to Speeding Motorcycle with Daniel Johnston.
But apart from the bags, we have at least three separate projects and releases up our sleeves, ready to unleash on a public, who are both unsuspecting and unaware of the excellence that will be contained within. Swing on by at the festival and we may just spill the beans.

LIMV is back in the kitchen

Love Is My Velocity are pleased to announce that we’ve begun production on the Love Is My Velocity Cookbook II – a revised, updated and totally new edition of our 2007 almanac of emerging Perth music and art.
What’s more, your art can be in the book. Designers, artists and illustrators of all stripes are invited to email expressions of interest, including work samples, to cookbook@loveismyvelocity.com. Send your best, most representative examples. Links to online portfolios are preferred, attachments are okay. We especially encourage local music lovers to apply – pass on your top five local bands for bonus points. Please also include a short biographical statement of your age and experience.
Expressions of interest must be received by January 31 to be considered.
In the interest of making the book as fresh as possible, we’re setting ourselves the challenge of finding an all-new set of artists. Sadly this means that artists from the last cookbook cannot contribute. We love you, but we must move on to other pastures. Not necessarily greener ones, just ones we haven’t grazed on yet.
The first LIMV Cookbook was published in 2007, bringing together 60 emerging artists and 48 of Perth’s finest, most innovative and favourite bands as one killer tribute to WA creativity. Its recipes were donated by the bands, artists drew inspiration from the bands and recipes, and the book was launched with a sell-out gig and exhibition at the Bakery. The book itself sold out in six months, leaving desperate Christmas shoppers clawing at display copies at stores around town…
Hola! Plate Project Aficionados!

If you were lucky enough to pop into the William Street Collective’s Popsicle project, you might have seen our limited edition range of 30 artist-designed melamine plates. To read more about the project and the artists involved, and to view all the designs, check out the Plate Project in our Projects section.
The plates have been a big hit and are only on sale for another two weeks (until November 30), so to celebrate we’re having a sale on plates. Sounds cheesy, but we have reduced the price of each design by up to 30%.
Now, apparently Christmas season is also melamine plate season in Perth, meaning production at our manufacturer is slower than usual. At the moment, the wait for plates will be around eight weeks. If you place your order before Sunday November 16 you should receive them, at the very latest, by early to mid-January.
Head to the shop to peruse the plates and buy a few. We recommend them as emergency belated gifts for friends who unexpectedly buy you Christmas presents. Bake your friend(s) a cake delivered on a plate!
