Ghost tours of Melbourne

by admin on Jan.28, 2011, under General

For our first post of 2011, we are happy to announce that Ghostdrums is travelling to Melbourne in corporeal form for one show only at the Builders Arms on Friday 11 February.

Ghostdrums’ debut self-titled release made a huge impact in 2010. You may have heard ‘Red Thread’ on FBi or RRR’s Incoming program; or you may have seen apparitions of the single ‘Morning Sun’ as Rage’s Indie Clip of the Week.

Keeping things spooky for his Melbourne show, Ghostdrums joins forces with Mystic Eyes and Aoi and entry is a meagre $8.

Anyone who has seen one of Ghostdrums’ (aka Pete Guazelli’s) live shows can testify to what an excellent live show he puts as a one man band. So we heartily recommend that Melbourne folks come and check it out.

Oh, and happy new year everyone!

LIMV Chillaxing at the Beaufort Street Festival

by admin on Nov.26, 2010, under General

It’s that time of the year when we throw caution to the wind and discount the hell out of our stock to make the task of stocking filling that much easier!

We’ve teamed up with other local publishers dotdotdash, the Rounds Project and the Perth Zine Collective to set up shop in the Slaughterblouse courtyard for the duration of the Beaufort Street Festival. So do come by and have a chat – extra points and negotiable discounts for those that bring breakfast cocktails before midday!

Our friendly walking wig aka hairiest guinea pig we’ve seen will tell you all the deets in the below flyer.

Thanks, you talented bastards

by admin on Jul.27, 2010, under General

Good things seem to happen all at once. Like Ghostdrums’ excellent self-titled EP continuing to find new fans all over the country – with FBi radio in Sydney adding the excellent track ‘Red Thread’ to rotation on the station.

Or like the great news involving Adem K and Ghostdrums, two LIMV artists with recently released albums, who have both been invited to play the RTRfm Radiothon Closing Party on August 28 at the Rosemount Hotel (we highly recommend heading on down to support the good station RTR as well as checking out some awesome bands).

Or like the 6s & 7s getting a 5 star review in the Australian Music Magazine, where the writer concluded their review with ‘When you reach the end of this sonic journey into bliss-pop and doom, you wanna shake this guy’s hand and say “Thanks, you talented bastard!”.

LIMV goes primetime and other fun news

by admin on Jun.24, 2010, under General

Ghostdrums
Yes, that’s right, PRIMETIME. Well, actually I am not sure whether between 8am – 10am on Saturday mornings counts technically as primetime, but that is clearly the prime eating-breakfast-in-your-pyjamas-in-front-of-the-tv time.

Ghostdrums’ excellent filmclip for Morning Sun has been chosen as Rage’s Indie Clip of the Week, so it will be shown sometime this Friday night (25 June), plus also sometime after 8am on Saturday morning. Check the Rage website later tonight or tomorrow for exact times, but we can tell you that the show will also feature new filmclips from, erm, U2 and Juliette Lewis. That’s right, we expect Ghostdrums will be playing stadiums and forming a full touring band with his Hollywood chums very soon.

Also in 6s & 7s news, their soon to be released debut album is now feature album on RTRFM in Perth, has had tracks added to high rotation on FBi Radio in Sydney and today had excellent reviews in Xpress Magazine and Sixthousand.

Don’t forget that presale tickets for the 6s & 7s album launch on 3 July at The Rosemount, North Perth are on sale (along with copies of  Ghostdrums EP) in our online shop.

May wrap up and 6s & 7s news

by admin on Jun.02, 2010, under General, Releases

Adem K launch. Image by the K's.

Oh yeah. May is over and we are having a mini-break to rest up after the antics of the past month. Seriously, we have launched a publication, opened a shop, closed a shop, launched a CD and recorded eleven bands in the space of one month. Overachievers, yes we are.

Takeaway Tunes photos and tracks are still easily accessible on the Takeaway Tunes link to the right of the menu bar. Or  www.loveismyvelocity.com/takeawaytunes will take you there too. Relive the memories.  If you don’t know what the hell we are talking about when we say ‘Takeaway Tunes’, then go here and be slightly less confused. Sleeping with the Band pillowcases, copies of RISO and Adem K CDs are all available in our online shop, so if you missed out on any May fun, then why not try and overcome your sense of regret by buying things?

Our next big project is to launch the debut album by the 6s & 7s called ‘6s & 7s Choose The Sentinel Blooze‘. To call this album ‘long-awaited’ doesn’t really do justice to the agonising wait we have all had to endure until we can finally take home some of these songs to listen to in the comfort of our lounge rooms (as opposed to the comfort of the Hydey front-room).

So, yes, that’s right, Josh Fontaine is releasing an album and we can confirm that it does have such hits as International Roaming Capability, Kissing for Science and Drunk Liberties on it. It also has a bunch of new songs which are equally on par with the old favourites, like Empty Cities, and His Eyes. And of course, it features Smilin’, (as popularised by Benjamin Golby) which will be hitting myspace and the airwaves in the next week as the first single. The album is also the best, strangest, most beautiful thing we have listened to for ages and the general consensus is that it sounds like nothing you have ever heard.

It will be released in stores on July 3 and distributed by Fuse Music Group. If you are in Perth, we have a launch party planned for July 3 at The Rosemount, North Perth, with more details soon, so giddy up.

Laurie Sinagra = The Man

by admin on May.24, 2010, under General, Takeaway Tunes

Laurie Sinagra

While we await Sunday’s freshly mixed n mastered tracks, it’s worth pointing out who has been responsible for the awesome toones you’ve been downloading. Laurie Sinagra is pretty much the nicest dude you’ll ever meet, and a super experienced sound engineer to boot. This whole shebang would have been impossible without him, and we can’t thank him enough for hanging out with us over the last five days and making all the bands sound so amazing. Our only regret – not recording Tomas Ford’s impromtu ode to his skills during sound check. Thanks Laurie, you’re the man!

Achtung Zinemakers: Your Friendly Neighbourhood Academic Needs You

by admin on Apr.29, 2010, under General

A lecturer at Curtin University is seeking hardcopy zine makers and online fan fiction forum writers to help with her research by filling out an online survey about their work. The only proviso is that you need to be over 18 and you need to have attempted some tertiary study of creative or professional writing. So if your voice is breaking or you’re a labourer’s apprentice, too bad! Just jokes.

The lecturer is Deborah Hunn, a woman who has been very supportive of pretty much all writers who have come out of Curtin in recent years. She was also instrumental in supporting hot new literary magazine dotdotdash! Come on man, help a sista out.

Visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/fanficzinesandemergentwriterquestionnaire to help out said sista.
