LIMV’s ANZAC DAY WEEKEND

Friday April 23
Head to the Rosemount Hotel in North Perth after 8pm, navigate your way through the beer garden and slip into the entrance to Bar 459. See Chris Cobilis, Lil Leonie Lionheart vs Rabbit Island and then to top it off – Ghostdrums.

You can buy a copy of the Ghostdrums USB on the night or just wait until you get home and have it delivered to your house or computer by purchasing it online.

Saturday April 24

Go to the pub, see a band, groan at Adam Sandler in the Saturday night movie, go bowling, roam the streets, whatever. buy a ticket to the RISO launch online.

Buying a ticket gets you on the doorlist to this event, as well as a copy of the publication and is therefore essential.

EDIT! Sunday April 25

Wander round the back of Kakulas to the Bird for the launch of LIMV’s RISO publication. You receive a collection of risographed posters featuring contributions from a number of Perth writers and artists. Have fun, collect your RISO publication on entry and see some awesome bands (Is Swan, Taco Leg, Astral Travel) and then go home, with the knowledge that the next day is a public holiday and you can sleep in.

DATE CHANGE!

We have regrettably had to change the date of the RISO launch to Sat 8 May at The Bird as the venue is not able to open on Sunday 25 April due to unforeseen circumstances. More details to follow, but we hope the line-up remains unchanged. Most importantly the publication will still be as excellent!

So the new date:
SATURDAY 8 MAY @ The Bird
8pm
$15 Entry includes a copy of RISO

The Bird has just got their licence, so this will no longer be a ’secret northbridge location’ or a ‘private party’ but we also encourage those who haven’t bought tickets to do so beforehand, as the capacity is limited.

Check out the Facebook event & join the LIMV Group to stay up to date with upcoming WAMi activites.

Haunting new music

Ghostdrums

Love Is My Velocity is proud to introduce Ghostdrums as we launch a limited edition USB release at Bar 459 at the Rosemount Hotel on Friday April 23 from 8pm.

As an eight year old learning to play the drums, Pete Guazzelli came up with an inventive way to make sure his family didn’t disown him. By draping a big white sheet (complete with eyeholes) over the top of his kit, he muffled the noise and created Ghostdrums.

After a fruitful period drumming in local bands like Fall Electric, The Kids and Gata Negra, Pete has revisited the Ghostdrums set up by building a unique machine from parts lying around the house. Combining a gold-sparkle ’60s Premiers drum kit with pedals, synths, loopers and the junk-percussion that’s been clogging up the spare room, Ghostdrums is this long-time Perth-based musician’s new solo project.

Keeping things spooky, Ghostdrums has joined forces with Melbourne artist Ghost Patrol to produce an interactive 4-track USB release that contains a bonus video for title track ‘Morning Sun’.

Ghostdrums’ experimental electronica combines intricate production with a lo-fi acoustic sound that’s as innocent and whimsical as his performance set-up.

See Ghostdrums with special guests, Rabbit Island vs Lil Leonie Lionheart and Chris Cobilis at Bar 459 at the Rosemount Hotel (Cnr Angove and Fitzgerald Streets, North Perth). Doors open at 8pm and capacity is limited,  so come early to grab one of the limited edition USBs released by Love Is My Velocity.

Ghostdrums’ self titled EP is also available digitally on itunes, emusic and the nokia music store from April 16. For a preview of the EP, check out his myspace.

The Smallgoods provide tasty treats

by admin on Feb.08, 2009, under Events

Move aside Dorsogna, Love Is My Velocity is donning a butcher’s apron and a classy hairnet in order to present The Smallgoods -  not an array of meats but an awesome Melbourne folk pop group. The show happens at The Velvet Lounge in Mt Lawley on Thursday 19th February 2009, with Benjamin Golby & Bridget Turner, and Nat Carson in support.

This marks The Smallgoods’ first jaunt to Perth, playing in a stripped down three piece format, so we’re throwing them a welcome shindig. Also deserving of warm greetings is Perth’s prodigal son Benjamin Golby (from New Rules for Boats) who is playing his first show since his return from abroad, with a little help from Bridget Turner (from Boys Boys Boys). Nat Carson (from Smallgoods’ labelmates The Bank Holidays) also joins the welcoming committee to kick off the proceedings with a cracking solo set. All in all, it’s a veritable continental roll worth of meaty treats.

The Smallgoods’ music wanders between jaunty folk, spacious epics, dark ballads and gentle psychedelia. Standout proponents of intelligent harmony laden pop music, The Smallgoods bring offerings from Down on the Farm, their third and most ambitious album to date. Released on Melbourne label Lost and Lonesome Records, this album brings the band back to their country roots in the Victorian coastal town of Port Fairy, where they all grew up together.

Did we mention that entry is a mere $7…

Laneway – more like Gameway

by admin on Feb.01, 2009, under Events

Love Is My Velocity join their 7 inch single monkeys the Tigers and the Bank Holidays at the Perth leg of the St Jerome’s Laneway Festival this Friday, February 6, 2009.

The PICA Bar will be open as a chill out space for festival patrons during Laneway. While our brosephs bang out the kind of epic sets that inspired us to release their songs on vinyl, we’ll be in there spinning wax (aka putting on hastily made mix CDs) and laying on a spread of beanbags and games (board, card, video and Twister) for people who want to take a break from the heat and enjoy a drink in PICA’s air-conditioned, indoor-plumbing-festooned comfort.

DJing with us are friends and members of local bands the Burton Cool Suit, Bamodi, Mass Birth, Bermuda, Radarmaker and Astral Travel, as well as some other local chumlies. We’ll be playing music keyed into the bands playing. There’ll be punk inspired by Jay Reatard, top 40, indie and hip hop hits inspired by Girl Talk, bar band piano and sax solos inspired by the Hold Steady, and more. Then some people are gonna be DJing according to the themes of “video games” and “nightmares”, so there’s something for everyone, really.

The games we’ll be playing are Streetfighter, Columns, NBA Jam, Uno, Mousetrap, Twister, Boggle, Scrabble, Pictionary, Super Mario 3, Mario Kart 64, and some stuff we don’t even know about yet. We also have a Spirograph set. Remember that thing? You won’t even want to see the bands. We promise.

Love Is My Velocity’s Gameway Festival – in the PICA Bar from 4pm to 12pm, Friday February 6.
