Open! Image by Thomas Rowe

Yesterday we opened Takeaway Tunes to the public and had Eleventh He Reaches London come and christen the joint with their blistering set. An excellent start!  Stay tuned, as we will be uploading the freshly recorded tracks this afternoon, along with more detail about last night’s fun.

If you couldn’t make it last night, then pop in today from 11am or come tonight for The Ghost Hotel at 6pm and The Benedict Moleta Band at 8pm.

p.s. Katie is going to be on Triple J Drivetime this afternoon giving the store and recording studio a big ol’ plug and Rupert from Owls will be with Dave Cutbush on RTRfm this afternoon at 2pm. Listen out!

AdemK

As if May wasn’t busy enough, Love Is My Velocity are unveiling our final event in our May trilogy, which is a party for the launch of Adem K’s new record ‘The Community Chest’ at our new favourite venue The Bird in Northbridge.

Come down and have a drink with us on Saturday 29 May 2010, with Adem K, The Painkillers and The Gizzards to celebrate the launch of Adem K’s debut solo album and the closing of LIMV’s month of May madness.

After busying himself in the past few years releasing the debut When the Sky Fell album, ‘Welcome to the Growth Zone’ and the sophomore album for The Burton Cool Suit, ‘You Can’t Fight City Hall’, former Turnstyle frontman and indie pop roustabout Adem K returns in 2010 with The Community Chest, his first solo release in his more-than-a-decade-spanning career.

The Community Chest sees K’s pop sensibility run wild, combining the blues-rock fuzz of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club with dreamy Beach Boys harmonies on opening track 200 Year Old Volkswagon, side-stepping between winsome verses and jerky choruses on third track Burning Questions for Sportsgirl, then rediscovering his synth roots with fifth track barn burner Ceiling to the Floor.

In addition to reaffirming his status as the best song title-er in the business, these songs show off the breadth, skill and eclecticism of K’s songwriting while at the same time providing the same wit and slacker 90s grit as his past projects.

The album will be available on the Love Is My Velocity online store, digitally on emusic.com and itunes and in all good record stores on May 31.

In case you haven’t heard/are confused, LIMV is erecting a temporary pop-up shop selling stock from WA labels and independent bands during the WAMi Festival, from May 19-23 at 54 Lake Street Northbridge, across the road from the Elephant and Wheelbarrow. When the sun goes down and legions of knife-concealing maniacs come out, the shop will host live, one hour recording sessions during which some of our favourite bands will lay down new tracks and reinterpret old hits.

The shop will also feature our limited edition Sleeping With the Band pillowcases. Sleeping With the Band pairs emerging illustrators with local music icons to make one-off pillow case designs that you can wake up next to for years to come. One such design is the fetching Mr Josh Fontaine above, illustrated by Freya Poulsen.

So what are you doing from May 19-23? Partying in a tiny shop? That’s right!
