Bank Notes

2009 WAMi Festival supports Bank Notes, a temporary recording studio presented by Love Is My Velocity.

  • A three-day pop-up studio at the old bank building from Wednesday May 6 to Friday May 8 at 214 William Street, Northbridge, and;
  • An mp3 blog (LoveisMyVelocity.com/BankNotes) featuring new tracks recorded at the studio by 10 of Perth’s best bands.

They say that if you love something, set it free. Well, we’ve tried that with many bands only to have them run away and never come back, leaving us nothing to remember them by.

That’s why this WAMi Festival, Love is My Velocity is setting up Bank Notes, a ramshackle studio in the disused bank space at 214 William Street in Northbridge. We are getting some of our favourite bands to come in, set up, record and get out, all in less than two hours each.

What’s more, members of the public can sign up to watch the recording taking place. Visit WAM.asn.au or LoveisMyVelocity.com for details.

Each band will contribute around three songs to an mp3 blog (LoveisMyVelocity.com/BankNotes) that will be downloadable for free the day after they’re recorded. The project acknowledges the financial, logistical and motivational difficulties of recording and distributing new music that independent and/or emerging bands can face, and acts as a limited-time-only solution to such problems.

Recording at the studio will be:
